On Thursday, November 21, the City Council will start voting on the most drastic change to New York’s zoning in decades. Even at this late date, most New Yorkers don’t know how City of Yes for Housing Opportunity will affect their neighborhoods.
The Adams administration’s plan would rewrite zoning rules to encourage new construction and eliminate green spaces, without even requiring affordable housing.
The Mayor and the Council have been making changes behind closed doors. Speaker Adrienne Adams just added “City for All” to the mix. It’s a list of financial requests to help affordable housing. Then the Council will vote tomorrow and we will barely even know what they’re voting on.
Reach out to your Council member today.
Tell them to:
- Keep your voice in zoning decisions and don’t eliminate public reviews.
- Keep New York green and don’t reduce open space requirements.
- Keep New York livable and don’t allow unlimited luxury condos to tower over your neighborhood.
