Say NO to Outsized Lenox Hill Hospital Proposal

The Conservancy is testifying at Community Board 8 on Wednesday, March 12, renewing our opposition to a Lenox Hill Hospital proposal that would radically change the zoning on Lexington Avenue and create a bulky, 436-foot-tall tower with massive floorplates rivaling those in One World Trade Center. You can read our testimony here. While the Hospital maintains it is listening to community concerns, little has changed from its initial proposal a few years ago.

Rendering of Lenox Hill Hospital expansion. The scale of its full-block campus is between 76th and 77th streets and Park and Lexington avenues.

Lenox Hill, now part of the large Northwell Hospital chain, maintains it needs the height and bulk to hold all its surgical needs and ancillary procedures in one place. At least one expert on hospital design disputes that. We hope his testimony is given weight.

This hearing is the first step in the City’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) process. You can sign up to attend or to submit written testimony.

The hearing is from 6:00 to 9:00 pm tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Rockefeller Research Laboratories, 430 East 67th Street, Room RRL-B20.
