This month, our Young Landmarks members kicked off a dynamic series of events celebrating New York City’s historic treasures. The group hosted a lively happy hour with 30+ attendees at the legendary Fraunces Tavern—where George Washington delivered his farewell address to his officers in 1783. One of the City’s earliest preservation triumphs, Fraunces Tavern was designated a New York City landmark in 1965 and traces its roots back to 1719. In 1974, the Conservancy prevented the demolition of the Fraunces Tavern block and secured its designation as a historic district.
The month continued with an exclusive architectural tour of the landmark Metropolitan Club, led by Acheson Doyle Partners. Members were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the Club’s storied interiors, including the lavish West Lounge ballroom, richly paneled Library, and elegant event spaces—culminating in a rooftop visit offering sweeping views of Central Park. Our thanks to Conservancy Board and Advisory Council members Frank Sciame and Alex Savona, and her husband Ryan Greene, for hosting the event.
