Borough Presidents help set budget and land use decisions for their borough, appoint community board members and a City Planning Commissioner, can hold hearings, and submit legislation to the City Council. Former Borough President Gale Brewer was a champion of preservation and remains so in her current City Council seat. Who holds this office matters.
With a large number of historic districts and individual landmarks, Manhattan is facing several major land use and preservation issues.
These include
- The future of Penn Station and its surrounding Midtown blocks;
- The proposed upzoning of Midtown South, which includes part of a historic district, several individual landmarks, and many buildings eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places;
- And the proposed expansion of Lenox Hill Hospital.
Feel free to submit a question for consideration, understanding that the co-sponsors are asking only four questions each.
