A Great Friend to the Conservancy – A Robert A.M. Stern Interview

Robert A.M. Stern was a great friend to the Conservancy. He spoke to us many times through the years on his books, preservation issues, and architectural styles. He supported us whenever we asked, writing opinion pieces or letters to the City Landmarks Preservation Commission.

We honored him as a “Living Landmark” and with our Chairman’s Award. We will miss him very much.

As I started to write a tribute following his death last week, I realized I had said much of it before. Here is a link to it, which includes an online interview with Bob about his New York buildings from February 2021.
Bob wrote an amazing series of books on New York architecture through the years. A New York Times interview on his final one, “New York 2020,” ran on November 10. I emailed him after reading it, asking if I could also interview with him

His response came last Tuesday.

Dear Peg, My conversation time is getting shorter, but I look forward to talking with you in the future nonetheless. My best, Bob.
