Preservation is personal. It’s about the places that shape our daily lives, our memories, and our neighborhoods. That’s why we’re launching another round of “I Am Preservation” — and we want you to be part of it.
We’re inviting supporters, neighbors, advocates, and New Yorkers of all kinds to submit a short video sharing how you represent preservation, why you support saving historic buildings and neighborhoods, or what New York City landmarks you love most.
Your voice helps show that preservation isn’t just about buildings — it’s about people.
How to Make Your “I Am Preservation” Video
Keep it simple, authentic, and fun.
- Start by saying your name, and if you’d like, the neighborhood you live in.
- Briefly share what you love about New York City landmarks — or a specific historic building, structure, or neighborhood. You can also talk about why you love NYC or your community, landmarked or not.
- End your video by saying: “I am Preservation!”
Filming Tips
- Vertical video is preferred, but not required.
- If you can, film yourself — or have a friend film you — in front of a landmark or favorite historic place.
- Be mindful of your surroundings (street noise, construction, crowds).
- Check your lighting — avoid spots that are too dark or overly bright.
- Set up your shot to minimize distractions in the background.
- Keep it short: 30 seconds max.
- Make eye contact, smile, speak clearly, and project your voice.
How to Submit
Email your finished video clip to info@nylandmarks.org.
Thank you for lending your voice to preservation — and most of all, have fun with it. We can’t wait to hear your story.
