Explore Religious Diversity During Open House in May

Eldridge Street Museum

The 10th Annual Sacred Sites Open House on May 16 & 17 will celebrate New York’s remarkable religious diversity. We began the Open House so that people could discover the beauty, hear the histories, and learn of the vital social service and cultural programs so many congregations provide their neighborhoods. The recent attacks on Jewish people, and at synagogues and other houses of worship, make an understanding and appreciation of our religious diversity essential.

Mrs. Matilda Raffa Cuomo, former New York State First Lady, is Honorary Chair this year: “I encourage you to visit participating houses of worship in your community,” Mrs. Cuomo said. “The Open House will shine a spotlight on the artistic, cultural, and religious diversity that abounds in New York.”

More than 10,000 persons took advantage of the weekend last year. Please use this coming Open House to explore the contributions of the religious institutions that you may pass by daily but have never had the opportunity to enter. We will notify you when the list of participants and special tours are available on our website.
