Conservancy Urges LPC to Designate the Breuer Building

The Conservancy urged the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) to designate the interior of the Breuer Building, the former home of the Whitney Museum, which is in the Upper East Side Historic District. We are pleased the commission has calendared the building as an individual and interior landmark. On January 28, the LPC heard Sotheby’s plans to turn the building into office and exhibition space. They agreed with our comments that a new freight elevator at the rear of the building was acceptable and that a scheme to add lighting at the entrance needed additional study.
