Conservancy Pledges 21 Grants to 18 Historic Houses of Worship

In April, the Sacred Sites Committee voted to pledge 21 grants to 18 historic houses of worship totaling $287,500. These grants were awarded in 13 counties, from Suffolk County on Long Island to Niagara County in western New York to St. Lawrence County in northern New York. Additionally, staff pledged another $82,000 in consulting grants to fund architectural and project management work at seven New York City congregations.

$15,000 — Architectural Services for Tower Restoration

Church of the Transfiguration, Midtown
$30,000 — Restoration of the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Chapel

Congregation Ezrath Israel (Actors’ Temple), Times Square
$5,000 — Schematic Design for Rear Wall Repairs

New York Society for Ethical Culture, Upper West Side
$15,000 — Structural Assessment of Areaway Walls

First Baptist Church in the City of New York, Upper West Side
$35,000 — Roof Repair

House of the Redeemer, Upper East Side
$12,000 — Phase 2 Window Restoration

Our Saviour’s Atonement Lutheran Church, Washington Heights
$12,000 — Steel Window Restoration
