Conservancy Awards 22 Sacred Sites Grants

The Conservancy’s Sacred Sites program recently pledged 22 grants totaling $250,000.

  • These included two grants to New York City congregations: $20,000 to the Manhattan Seventh Day Adventist Church in Greenwich Village, which dates to 1882, for foundation structural repairs, and $20,000 to St. Raphael’s Church in Long Island City, for roof replacement. Built in 1881, St. Raphael’s is the oldest extant Roman Catholic Church in Queens.
  • Two grants to Long Island churches totaling $20,000 were made possible with funding from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation.
  • Statewide, additional grants were awarded from the Hudson Valley to the Adirondacks, Finger Lakes, and Buffalo-Niagara region.
