Supporting Preservation Education

The Conservancy has a rewarding relationship with Bronx International High School, which has a program that helps produce the preservation professionals of tomorrow.

For the last six years, we have hosted interns who are considering becoming architects, engineers or skilled in the preservation trades. The students we’ve been lucky enough to know are smart and eager to succeed. We recently heard from one of them who just “virtually graduated” from New York City College of Technology with a degree in engineering.

“Thank you for believing in me,” Karla Peña wrote to Scott Leurquin . “I remember you told me I could do big things in life and those words stuck with me.” Scott does double duty as our Development Director and intern mentor. Karla is now employed as a bridge inspector trainee.

So the Conservancy is among the many looking forward to having schools reopen. We want the privilege of knowing more of these wonderful students.

Karla Peña, former Conservancy intern, now a graduate with a job in engineering.
