Schapiro Fund Grant Will Support Conservancy Projects

The Conservancy is pleased to announce a three-year grant of $105,000 from the Morris and Alma Schapiro Fund to support our Historic Properties Fund (HPF) and Preservation Services programs. We are appreciative of the Schapiro Fund’s ongoing support over the years which allows the Conservancy to continue its work throughout the City. The Historic Properties Fund and Preservation Services programs work in neighborhoods in all five boroughs of the City, enriching the quality of life for all New Yorkers.

During its over 40-year history, HPF has assisted 279 property owners in revitalizing neighborhoods throughout the City. HPF is currently assisting the owner of a rowhouse in the Crown Heights North Historic District to restore the front facade of the building and restore the historic windows. This year, Preservation Services awarded $47,600 for three grants and has answered hundreds of preservation hotline calls from the public about building issues and finding qualified contractors. A $20,000 Emergency Grant to the United Palace Theater in Washington Heights assisted in preparing a conditions assessment after a piece of terra cotta fell off of the building.
