Sacred Sites Update – 21 Grants Approved

Mt. Zion
Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harlem received a $50,000 Sacred Sites Grant.

SACRED SITES UPDATE: In this strange and serious time, our staff continues to diligently work from home. Our Board Committees continue to function as well. Our Sacred Sites Committee met last Thursday, April 30 on Zoom and approved 21 grants totaling $337,000 to institutions across the state. The grants will help fix stained glass windows, replace leaky roofs, restore steeples, repoint masonry and shore up sagging foundations. Some congregation are really small. But even these have a large impact in their communities. These institutions still host food banks. Until recently, they also provided space for community meetings, AA and Al-Anon programs, day care centers, cultural events and outreach to immigrant neighbors. Together, these 21 serve more than 53,000 people beyond their congregations.
