Residences at PS 186 – A former 1903 C.B.J. Snyder-designed public school, converted into an apartment building for low and middle-income New Yorkers and a new Boys and Girls Club (Dattner Architects)

Donovan Rypkema is principal of PlaceEconomics, a Washington, D.C.-based real estate and economic development-consulting firm. The work of the firm is at the nexus of historic preservation and economics. Donovan has assessed the economic impact of preservation in cities across the country and around the world. He conducted two groundbreaking studies for the Landmarks Conservancy.

He’ll explain why the “trickle down” theory that aggressive building eventually lowers prices won’t work in New York City, and the role preservation plays in creating and protecting housing.

This lecture is AIA-approved for 1.5 continuing education (CE) credits.
