As we head into the holiday season, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks for standing by us and the city we love.
Your support plays a vital role in our ability to be enthusiastic and effective advocates on behalf of New York’s abundance of architectural treasures … for those of us who live and work here and for those who enjoy visiting our great city.
One example: Moynihan Train Hall, the former Farley Post Office across the street Madison Square Garden on 8th Avenue. Designed by the renowned firm of McKim, Meade & White in the Beaux-Arts style, we worked for decades to repurpose this magnificent example of New York’s exceptional cultural heritage.
We’ve also committed significant staff and financial resources to stabilizing the Olmsted-Beil House on Staten Island. This is where Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of landscape architecture, experimented with the ideas that he would eventually incorporate into his designs for Central Park and Prospect Park.
And we supplied the Louis Armstrong House Museum in Corona, Queens with a $20,000 emergency grant to repair water damage to the roof and terrace, and to help preserve historic finishes.
We’re the only organization in the City providing this hands-on help – both the technical and financial assistance – needed to preserve the very best of New York’s art, architecture, and history.
I hope we can count on your continued support today, as part of a global day of giving and unity, #GivingTuesday.
New York’s remarkable story is vividly reflected in its world-renowned buildings and distinctive neighborhoods. Our efforts to maintain these symbols of New York’s rich past benefit residents and visitors alike today and will for the generations yet to discover our magnificent city.
