SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:The New York Landmarks Conservancy\, in partnership with The General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen of the City of New York and Calvert Vaux Preservation Alliance (CVPA)\, cordially invites you to a Landmark Lecture \nRevisiting Gilded Age New York with Calvert Vaux\nWith Historians Francis Kowsky and Sara Cedar Miller \nTuesday\, October 27th\, 6:00 PM\nLOCATION: General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen of The City of New York – 20 West 44th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues)\, Manhattan www.generalsociety.org \nThe Dairy\, Central Park\nIn the second half of the 19th century\, New York grew into a true metropolis. Most people know about landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted’s work here\, but in reality\, it was his friend and collaborator Calvert Vaux who played the key role in creating both Central Park and Prospect Park in the City\, as well as many other works around the country.
